Abia probes killing of Chinese miners trailed from Ebonyi

Abia State authorities have revealed troubling details about a deadly attack that claimed the lives of two Chinese miners and a police escort in Uturu. Speaking at a press conference after the state executive council meeting, Information Commissioner Okey Kanu shared critical insights into the ongoing investigation.

Security agencies believe the attackers meticulously planned their assault, potentially tracking the Chinese traveling group from Ebonyi State before striking in Abia. Contrary to initial assumptions, officials emphasized that the incident did not appear to be a standard kidnapping operation. Police responded quickly, successfully rescuing the remaining members of the traveling team.

Kanu stressed that state security forces are actively working to uncover the motives behind the brutal attack. The investigation aims to understand the precise circumstances that led to the violent incident and identify the perpetrators responsible for targeting the Chinese nationals and their police protection.

In a related update, the commissioner also announced upcoming significant events for the state. Governor Alex Otti is set to launch the Abia State Health Insurance Scheme on Thursday in Umuahia. Additionally, former President Olusegun Obasanjo will join Governor Otti to introduce a hearing intervention mission designed to support individuals with hearing challenges across the state.
