Accra NPP youth Mustapha vows street march over Abronye's lockup

The New Patriotic Party announced plans for a September 23, 2025, demonstration against alleged police harassment of party members. National Youth Organiser Salam Mustapha revealed the protest details through a Facebook announcement on Friday, September 12. The march will begin at Obra Spot and proceed to the police headquarters starting at 6 a.m. The demonstration follows an Accra Circuit Court decision ordering two weeks of continued custody for Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe, known as Abronye DC. Police arrested Baffoe on September 8 for offensive conduct that could breach public peace.

Several prominent party figures face ongoing police investigations and arrests. Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, is facing allegations of fraud and money laundering. Other NPP associates have experienced separate legal troubles recently. Party leadership maintains these actions represent politically motivated persecution rather than legitimate law enforcement. The organization promises substantial mobilization to combat what members consider abuse of governmental authority.
