ADCA survey projects 17.5% growth for the Africa data center sector

Africa's data center industry expects strong growth over the next year according to a new survey. The Africa Data Centres Association released findings from its annual study at a recent conference. Rising Advisory helped analyze the results and STELLARIX supported the research. Industry leaders shared their views about economic conditions, investments, innovation and environmental goals. The survey captures how executives see the future of data centers across Africa.

Nearly all respondents predict their businesses will grow during the coming 12 months. Companies anticipate average expansion of 17.5 percent across the sector. No survey participants expect their operations to shrink. Digital transformation drives most of the optimism among data center operators. African economies continue adopting more technology services that require processing power.

Most companies plan major investments within the next year despite facing obstacles. Energy access remains the biggest challenge for data center development. Financing problems and government regulations also slow progress. Business conditions look favorable to more than 80 percent of survey participants. Companies rate their average profitability at 3.3 points on a five-point scale.

Environmental and social performance scores average 5.87 out of 10 points among data center operators. Energy efficiency ranks as the top environmental priority for nearly three-quarters of companies. Renewable energy adoption lags far behind efficiency improvements. Industry leaders focus on immediate gains rather than long-term environmental changes. Progress happens slowly but steadily across sustainability measures.

Skills training has become essential for data center growth across Africa. About 61 percent of companies created their programs to teach workers specific job skills. The African Continental Free Trade Area shows little impact on the industry yet. Digital sovereignty gains importance as African leaders want more control over their data infrastructure.
