Adeleke may seek a new party for the 2026 re-election

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke may need to find another political party for his 2026 reelection bid because internal disputes prevent the Peoples Democratic Party from fielding a candidate, according to party Deputy National Chairman Kamoru Ajisafe. Speaking on a local radio program, Ajisafe blamed FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and factional secretary Samuel Anyanwu for the crisis that has already cost the party leaders, including Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas.

Ajisafe explained that the Anyanwu group refused to authorize primary elections despite approaching deadlines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The party has until mid-December to select its gubernatorial nominee, but competing factions have blocked the process. Speculation suggests Adeleke could join the Accord Party before the electoral deadline expires.

The deputy chairman expressed frustration over missed opportunities, noting that the PDP cannot constitutionally nominate anyone after the commission's cutoff date passes. He questioned whether any politician would remain with an organization that prevents them from seeking office when alternative platforms remain available.
