Afghanistan fast bowler Mohammad Saleem has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi due to a groin injury. The Afghanistan Cricket Board announced that the 23-year-old pacer will begin rehabilitation at the board’s High Performance Center.
Sami, 21, has been called up to replace Saleem in the squad. Sami debuted internationally against Zimbabwe in December 2024 and has played 25 List A matches, taking 44 wickets at an average of 25.72. He also competed in the 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup and recently performed well in the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament, finishing as Speen Ghar Region’s second-highest wicket-taker with ten wickets.
Afghanistan will start their ODI series against Bangladesh on Wednesday, October 8, where Sami will aim to make an impact in Saleem’s absence.
