Africa, China leaders talk trade and tech at key SA summit

At a forum in Kempton Park, representatives from African and Chinese sectors gathered to commemorate a quarter century of collaboration. Hosted by the Public Service and Administration Department alongside the Global South Dialogue, the daylong meeting under Minister Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi explored ways to strengthen economic partnerships and cultural ties. With important global summits approaching, delegates outlined strategies to expand infrastructure cooperation and align policy frameworks.

Participants focused on three themes. First, joint ventures in agriculture science and technology aimed to improve food security and develop innovation hubs for renewable energy and data analytics. Next, experts examined reforms to multilateral institutions to grant developing nations greater influence in decision-making. Finally, media professionals discussed training for emerging journalists to highlight success stories and build confidence.

Organizers regard this roundtable as a stepping stone toward deeper South-South collaboration. Insights will inform upcoming leaders’ meetings where detailed proposals for training programs, trade agreements and shared research initiatives will be refined. With active youth involvement and broader stakeholder support, the partnership intends to deliver concrete outcomes for sustainable growth.
