Africa tests borderless data swap in new pilot

Smart Africa is teaming up with a company called Ascend Digital Solutions to test a new continental data-sharing system. They are launching a pilot for the Smart Africa Data Exchange, or SADX. This platform is meant to allow secure cross-border data sharing and digital ID checks, a major move toward creating a unified digital market for the continent.

Built on open standards, the SADX platform is designed to be scalable and work across different national systems. It aims to let countries exchange information safely while meeting strict security and sovereignty rules. The goal is to smooth out digital interactions between borders, helping both public services and private businesses operate regionally.

Three countries, Benin, Ghana, and Rwanda, will try out the platform first under the Smart Africa Trust Alliance. They will run practical tests on services like identity verification, creating examples that could be used everywhere. The deal was signed at a major summit. Smart Africa states this pilot is key groundwork for realizing a full Single Digital Market by the year 2030, aiming to build digital trust and speed up the continent's tech transformation.
