After $865M, Huckaby says Squadron 42 might miss 2026

Cloud Imperium Games faces mounting pressure to deliver Squadron 42 by its 2026 target date. Content Director Jared Huckaby expressed uncertainty about meeting this deadline during a recent videocast. The development team has eliminated Squadron 42 from CitizenCon Direct presentations to maintain focus on production work. Huckaby later clarified that his comments addressed general game development challenges rather than specific project problems. Squadron 42 remains on schedule despite these concerns.

Chris Roberts envisions the single-player campaign as a blend of Star Wars and Top Gun storytelling. The studio hopes to generate excitement comparable to Grand Theft Auto VI when Squadron 42 releases next year. Star Citizen's crowdfunding campaign has accumulated $865 million from supporters worldwide. The project features renowned actors such as Gary Oldman, Henry Cavill, and Mark Hamill in leading roles. Roberts considers Squadron 42 among the most significant AAA releases planned for 2026.
