Airport slams doors on well-wishers for BNP’s big return

That airport in Dhaka, Hazrat Shahjalal International, is locking down for a full day. Group Captain SM Ragib Samad, the airport's executive director, put out a notice about the new rules. For twenty-four hours, starting in the evening, nobody gets inside unless they are a traveler with a valid flight ticket. All regular visitors and people just seeing someone off are completely banned from entering.

This security clampdown is directly linked to the planned return of Tarique Rahman. He is the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, the BNP. His arrival is expected to draw significant crowds. The party itself has apparently organized a lot for his homecoming.

Law enforcement and other security agencies are reportedly on high alert around the entire airport area because of the situation. The directive is a straightforward attempt to control the terminal crowd and minimize disruption by restricting access to ticketed passengers only during this period.
