Airtel zaps Madagascar with VoLTE, drops old calls

Airtel Madagascar confirmed voice over LTE technology availability on Wednesday, Sept. 23, during an event at the Digital Center by MNDPT in Antananarivo. The telecommunications company demonstrated the service to government officials, and Digital Development Minister Stéphanie Delmotte attended the presentation. The technology enables high-definition voice calls through fourth-generation wireless networks while users maintain internet access through existing data plans.

The company will introduce affordable smartphones to expand connectivity across Madagascar as part of its fourth-generation network expansion. Minister Delmotte stated the launch aligns with the presidential digital transformation strategy for the nation. The government continues infrastructure development through tower deployment, and social programs support widespread access to telecommunications services across the country.
