AI's Rise Poses Threat to Women's Jobs in Bangladesh's Workforce

Robot brains threaten to steal jobs from millions of women across Bangladesh. Smart machines target female workers more than male employees according to shocking new research. The International Labour Organization discovered that nearly one in ten jobs held by women face replacement compared to just three percent for men. Female employees work in offices doing paperwork and data entry that computers can handle better.

Bangladesh built its economy on the backs of hardworking women who sew clothes for the world. Over four million people make garments for foreign countries and six out of ten are women. These ladies helped make Bangladesh the second biggest clothing seller on Earth. Female workers also break barriers in banking, healthcare, and computer jobs.

Computers excel at boring repetitive tasks that many women perform every day. Bank clerks, factory data workers, and phone operators could lose their paychecks to silicon rivals. Men usually handle technical jobs and supervise other people which makes them safer from robot replacement. Women struggle to learn new skills because they juggle family duties with work responsibilities.

The digital divide hits women harder than men in rural areas. Female workers earn just 36 percent of all jobs compared to over 80 percent for males. Smart machines could push more ladies out of steady work into unpaid household chores. Rural women just started using computers for small businesses but lack the tech knowledge to compete.

Leaders must create training programs that teach women computer skills. Companies need fair hiring rules and flexible schedules for working mothers. Women deserve seats at the table when designing the future of artificial intelligence.
