Aitana Bonmati fires Spain past Germany in Zurich to set Euro 2025 final with England

World champions Spain defeated Germany 1-0 during their Women's Euro 2025 semi-final match in Zurich on Wednesday. Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmati delivered the decisive strike in the 113th minute of extra time, catching German goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger off guard at her near post. The tense encounter nearly reached a penalty shootout before Bonmati's late intervention secured victory for La Roja.

Spain advances to face England in Sunday's final at Basel, recreating their 2023 World Cup championship matchup where they triumphed 1-0 in Sydney. Victory would make Spain the first nation since Germany to simultaneously hold both world and European titles. Spanish goalkeeper Cata Coll produced several spectacular saves, particularly a double stop against Klara Buehl and Carlotta Wamser during regular time.

Germany sought to add to their record collection of eight European Championship trophies but fell short despite strong crowd support. Spain achieved their maiden European Championship final appearance while recording their first-ever victory against the German women's team.
