Akonnor Breathes Fire Over Ghanas Young Guns

Former Ghana coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor believes the Black Stars have solid plans for the future. Current coach Otto Addo picked young players for the Unity Cup after senior stars missed the tournament. Thomas Partey and Mohammed Kudus stayed away from the London competition. Five new players made their first appearances for the national team. Joseph Tetteh Anang and Aaron Essel joined three other rookies on the squad.

Akonnor told Graphic Sports he feels impressed with the talented newcomers. The former coach thinks older players will step aside and create chances for replacements. Young athletes showed promise during their debut matches for Ghana. Ghana lost to Nigeria but beat Trinidad and Tobago 4-0 for third place at the tournament. The team prepares for September World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali.
