Akshay Bhatia crashes at Sanderson Farms Championship

Akshay Bhatia struggled through the opening round of the 2025 Sanderson Farms Championship on Friday, posting an even-par 72 that left him tied for 88th place at the Country Club of Jackson. The tournament favorite bogeyed holes seven and eight before recovering with three birdies on the back nine, but additional bogeys on holes 14 and 16 negated his progress. Bhatia must improve significantly in the second round to advance in the Fall season event.

Eric Cole, Sam Ryder, Danny Walker, and Garrick Higgo share the lead at 7-under 65 after the first day. Cole recorded 10 birdies to offset a late double bogey, while Ryder completed a bogey-free round. Walker and Ryder both need strong finishes to reach the top 100 in FedExCup standings and retain their tour cards. Rasmus Hojgaard shot 69 and sits at No. 87 in the standings after competing in the Ryder Cup.
