Algafari calls Spetsov's pick surprising in Sofia

Political analyst Nidal Algafari has commented on recent government actions, stating that the appointment of Rumen Spetsov to manage the Lukoil Neftochim Burgas refinery was unexpected. He suggested that while other candidates might have had stronger economic backgrounds, Spetsov was likely selected because he was acceptable to American and British authorities for an upcoming sale of the facility. Algafari downplayed concerns about a refinery seizure, emphasizing that its continued operation and fuel pricing were more critical issues.

Regarding the political landscape, Algafari firmly rejected the possibility of early parliamentary elections. He stated that the current governing coalition would avoid such a move to prevent President Rumen Radev from formally assuming a party leadership role, adding that even a potential fuel crisis would not alter this calculation.

Algafari also criticized recent fiscal policies for placing burdens solely on private businesses instead of the state administration. He further condemned new parking regulations in Sofia, arguing they were poorly conceived and would negatively affect commuters from nearby cities, though he expressed hope for a correction by the Consumer Protection Commission.
