Alleged custodial torture of tribal youths sparks outrage in Chhatarpur, investigation underway

Four tribal youths from Kanjadpur Dharampura have accused Naugaon police station officers of custodial torture in Chhatarpur district. The victims claim authorities stripped and beat them continuously for four days while forcing them to endure chili powder abuse. Police intercepted the group on July 15 while they returned from a house inauguration ceremony and were urinating beside Naugaon Disleri Road. Officers detained five individuals but released one person due to physical disability.

The remaining four youths allege police hung them upside down and struck them with belts and fists. Authorities reportedly tortured them to extract confessions regarding transformer oil theft. Bhim Army activists accompanied the victims to the Superintendent of Police office Saturday afternoon where they conducted a sit-in protest until early morning. Medical staff examined three victims at the district hospital following the demonstration.

Tourism Minister Dilip Ahirwar has promised a thorough investigation while Deputy Inspector General officials met personally with the complainants.
