Multiple studios competed for the movie rights during March at the Game Developers Conference. Sony and other companies made offers for the popular video game property. Amazon MGM Studios eventually won the bidding war against competitors. The deal brings together both It Takes Two and Split Fiction movies under the same studio. Sweeney also signed for another video game film based on Out Run.
Split Fiction sold nearly 4 million copies since its March release date. EA called the launch hugely successful for developer Hazelight Studios. The game trails behind It Takes Two which reached 20 million total sales. The upcoming movie could boost Split Fiction toward that milestone number. Hollywood talent attached to the project should attract mainstream audiences.
