Ambulances camp at crash zones, air rescues on speed dial

The government set up a bunch of ambulances at accident hotspots for the holidays. They positioned twenty-seven advanced units at major highway danger zones, with more standard ambulances on standby nationwide. A dedicated free emergency line is active at 591. Officials revealed the plan during a recent road safety campaign launch. They are also working on a new post-crash system after the cabinet approved a Road Accident Fund Bill earlier this year. This proposed fund, paid for partly by insurance fees, aims to get victims medical help within the first critical hour and cover immediate costs.

The transport ministry confirmed the deployments, thanking partners like ICZ and noting Discovery Ambulances can also be reached at 911. The minister stated they approved a short-term plan to staff and supply these ambulances at tollgates and high-risk areas for this period. The traffic safety council is coordinating with health services, police, and civil protection for fast casualty evacuation. Discovery Ambulances has units in places like Chiredzi, Beitbridge, and Makuti. Their CEO expressed pride in the partnership to improve emergency response. The managing director of the traffic safety council highlighted stations as far as Beitbridge, with dedicated vehicles at frequent accident locations like Makuti and Connemara. Air ambulances in Harare and Bulawayo are also ready if needed.
