AMD buys MK1 to boost Instinct GPU AI tech

Advanced Micro Devices completed its purchase of MK1, a Mountain View, California-based company specializing in rapid inference and reasoning technologies for artificial intelligence systems, according to a company announcement released on Monday. The acquired firm's Flywheel platform processes more than one trillion tokens daily and has been engineered specifically to exploit the memory capabilities of Instinct graphics processing units.

The MK1 personnel will integrate into the AMD Artificial Intelligence Group to enhance enterprise software capabilities and accelerate inference performance. The Flywheel and comprehension systems deliver scalable reasoning that the chipmaker describes as accurate, economical, and fully traceable for large-scale implementations. AMD stated the transaction advances its artificial intelligence roadmap by combining MK1's software innovations with its computing hardware to enable automation of sophisticated business workflows and expand possibilities for high-value enterprise applications.
