AMD confirms Zen 6, Zen 7 cores for EPYC, Ryzen CPUs

AMD revealed its processor development timeline extending through the remainder of the decade during its Financial Analyst Day 2025 presentation, announcing both Zen 6 and Zen 7 architectures for upcoming EPYC server and Ryzen consumer chip families. According to Mark Papermaster, Zen 6 will arrive in 2026 using TSMC 2nm manufacturing technology and will deliver improved performance alongside enhanced power efficiency through standard and C-variant designs targeting different market segments.

The presentation marked the first public acknowledgment of Zen 7 architecture, scheduled for the EPYC Verano server platform around 2027. This generation will introduce a Matrix Engine component and expand artificial intelligence capabilities with support for additional data formats beyond the performance gains typical of new processor releases.

AMD plans to pair Zen 6 processors in its Venice server lineup with fifth-generation Infinity Fabric interconnects and CDNA 5 graphics accelerators, including MI400 series products. The Helios server configuration will feature PCIe 7.0 connectivity and 2.5D packaging technology, delivering bandwidth reaching 224 gigabits per second, while desktop implementations will appear in Olympic Ridge and Medusa Point product families.
