AMD Ditches ZT Business for Huge 3B Payday

AMD agreed to sell parts of ZT Systems to Sanmina for $3 billion. Sanmina will pay $2.25 billion in cash up front. The deal adds another $300 million split between cash and company shares. Sanmina might pay $450 million more based on how well the business performs in the next three years. The companies expect to finish the deal before 2026 arrives.

AMD bought ZT Systems just two months ago for $4.9 billion. Many market experts thought AMD would sell this business for around $3.5 billion. AMD also recently increased its stock buyback plan by $6 billion. The company can spend about $10 billion to purchase its shares from the market. AMD already spent $749 million buying back shares earlier this year.

AMD partnered with Saudi company HUMAIN to create $10 billion in computing power. They plan to build massive data centers in Saudi Arabia over five years. HUMAIN will handle the buildings and power needs for these centers, while AMD will provide computer chips and special software for the project. Their first major data center should start working in early 2026.
