AMD added new code to Linux systems for upcoming Zen 6 processors. The company put CPU identification numbers into Linux patches that point to EPYC Venice chips. Team Red starts Linux work much earlier than other chip makers do. Venice workstation processors use the internal name Weisshorn according to recent discoveries. AMD focuses completely on professional computer markets right away.
Linux developers found three different CPU codes under Zen 6 settings. One code represents Venice processors for data centers. Two other codes might belong to Venice-Dense chips and Instinct accelerators. AMD builds these products for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. Consumer desktop processors called Medusa Ridge will come later.
EPYC Venice processors will use advanced 2-nanometer manufacturing from TSMC. These chips pack up to 256 processing cores and 512 threads into eight sections. AMD combines regular Zen 6 cores with smaller Zen 6C cores for better performance. Desktop versions will offer 12, 24, and 32 core options for home users. The company expects Venice to become one of their strongest processor releases.
