Actress Ameesha Patel explained why she rejected a part in the movie Himalay Putra, which was Akshaye Khanna's first film. She mentioned that veteran actor Vinod Khanna personally asked her parents to cast her. At that time, however, Patel was studying in the United States and had zero interest in acting, preferring to focus entirely on her academics. She and her family decided to decline the offer.
Patel later worked with Vinod Khanna on two other films, and also with his brother Rahul and cousin Karan. Commenting on Akshaye Khanna's recent popularity from the project Dhurandhar, she stressed that his current recognition is not a sudden phenomenon. She pointed out it actually results from three decades of persistent effort, now making him a nationwide favorite. The two actors have previously shared the screen in films like Humraaz and Aap Ki Khatir.
