Amoakoh Criticises NDC's Six New Taxes and Insurance Levy

Dr. Ekua Amoakoh from the NPP communication team has slammed the current government for breaking tax promises. The Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson told lawmakers during his vetting process that he would not create new taxes for revenue. The NDC administration has done the opposite and brought in six different taxes since taking power. Amoakoh made these claims during her appearance on GHOne TV last Wednesday. She says the government talks one way but acts another way.

The government removed a motor insurance tax that the NPP never actually used. Instead they created a massive 21.9 percent tax on non-life insurance policies that hits regular people hard. Amoakoh thinks this tax rate could jump to 60 percent before the NDC finishes their four years in office. She calls this approach dangerous and impossible to maintain. Most smart governments start with small tax rates and raise them slowly over time.

The suspended Dumsor levy will come back around July 16 according to Amoakoh. She believes Ghanaians have very little reason to feel happy about the current leadership. The NPP member warns that starting with such high tax rates shows poor planning. Citizens face more financial pressure from these new policies. The government has created problems rather than solutions for ordinary families across the country.
