ANT condemns attacks on NUP campaign, calls for fair elections

The Alliance for National Transformation criticized security forces for allegedly disrupting opposition rallies and detaining supporters during recent campaign activities in Lira, Kiruhura, and Mbarara districts. Acting National Coordinator Alice Alaso Asianut issued a statement on Saturday expressing concern about physical assaults on women during arrests and warning that deployment of unidentified armed personnel threatens electoral stability. The party demanded the immediate release of detained campaign workers and called on the Electoral Commission to guarantee protection for all candidates.

Law enforcement authorities maintained that arrests in Mbarara followed violence against officers and property damage by participants at political gatherings. Police officials characterized their response as necessary to address criminal behavior and public disorder, asserting that most campaign events have proceeded without incident. The opposition alliance expressed solidarity with the National Unity Platform while advocating for unimpeded access to voters throughout the election period.
