Anthony Loke eyes ECRL extension from Kota Bharu to Rantau Panjang

Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd and the Transport Ministry continue examining plans to stretch the East Coast Rail Link beyond Kota Bharu to Rantau Panjang in Pasir Mas. Kelantan Deputy Chief Minister Mohamed Fadzli Hassan announced the ongoing evaluation during state assembly proceedings. The proposal aligns with Malaysian and Thai government agreements to restore cross-border railway connections between Pasir Mas and Sungai Golok. Officials prefer extending the line to Rantau Panjang rather than the previously planned Tumpat terminus. Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed his ministry's assessment of the extension proposal.

Kelantan authorities developed comprehensive strategies to maximize economic benefits from ECRL station developments. Cargo Oriented Development at Pasir Puteh Station aims to attract domestic and international investment while generating logistics and supply chain opportunities. Transit Oriented Development at Tunjong Station will transform the area into a balanced urban center. The complete ECRL project reaches completion by late 2026. Passenger services between Kota Bharu and Gombak begin January 2027.
