Harare traffic cameras catch violations at 16 sites

Harare drivers just got caught in a citywide camera net. TelOne confirms sixteen cameras are live already, with twenty sites slated for the opening stage of a nationwide smart-traffic push. Chief executive Lawrence Nkala broke the numbers down at TelOne's 12th AGM, confirming poles are already up at major junctions around the capital.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage is steering the whole push, while TelOne handles the technical build-out. Nkala explained that all twenty planned sites got finished, cameras went up on poles, and sixteen of them are live and catching drivers at this point.

Drive down Samora Machel toward town, and the cameras are hard to miss, with Nkala noting that violations are already piling up. The system flags speeding, jumping red lights, illegal turns, and skipping the right of way.

Footage also backs up crash probes and gives law enforcement something solid to act on. Nkala is urging drivers to stay alert and brush up on the Highway Code before more citations start landing.
