Anwar defends Trump's invite to ASEAN Summit as a push for Palestinian rights

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim defended Malaysia’s invitation to U.S. President Donald Trump for the upcoming Asean Summit, stating it was part of the country’s strategic effort to advocate for Palestinian rights through diplomacy. Speaking at the “Himpunan Solidariti Bersama Gaza” rally at the Axiata Arena, Anwar dismissed criticism of the invitation, emphasizing that engaging with global powers is essential for meaningful change.

Anwar expressed hope that his meeting with Trump at the summit would help advance the cause of a sovereign Palestinian state. He reiterated Malaysia’s commitment to using the diplomatic platform to continue voicing support for Palestine while maintaining a firm stance on the issue.

Drawing historical parallels, Anwar referenced Malaysia's own struggle for independence and Vietnam’s negotiations for peace, highlighting the importance of diplomacy in achieving justice. Trump is expected to attend the ASEAN–US Summit and the East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur, alongside other world leaders, from October 26 to 28.
