Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim claims Terengganu's latest green energy ventures will lure major foreign investors to Malaysia. The Hybrid Hydro Floating Solar and Green Hydrogen Hub represent a groundbreaking partnership between energy giants Petronas and TNB. Kenyir has transformed into an international magnet for clean energy investment according to the premier. The alternative energy initiative aligns perfectly with Malaysia's national energy goals and global green aspirations. Officials celebrated the swift implementation of both projects at Sultan Mahmud Power Station.
The pilot floating solar installation covers 1,085 square meters of Kenyir Dam surface with 220 panels generating 100 kilowatts. Tasik Kenyir spans 36,900 hectares and could support massive solar development across 10 percent of its waters. Engineers estimate the lake could produce 2,200 megawatts without harming local ecosystems. The green hydrogen hub positions Malaysia as a regional leader in sustainable energy production. Both ventures support the National Energy Transition Roadmap and hydrogen technology goals.
Anwar revealed the projects connect directly to the ambitious Asean Power Grid network spanning multiple countries. An undersea cable will link Vietnam to Kota Bharu before extending through Peninsular Malaysia to Singapore. The new transmission system requires upgraded infrastructure capacity throughout Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor and Johor states. Local communities in Kuala Berang and Hulu Terengganu will receive specialized technical training programs. The premier wants young residents trained for high-skilled positions rather than basic service jobs at the facilities.
