Anwar pledges to promote Perodua globally as Malaysia’s automotive ambassador

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim pledged to personally market Perodua vehicles during international trips after the automaker celebrated production of its 5.5 millionth vehicle. The leader told attendees at the manufacturing plant that he plans to advocate for export opportunities when meeting foreign officials in South Africa and other nations, emphasizing that locally designed electric models deserve global recognition alongside traditional combustion engines like the popular Myvi and Bezza sedan.

Anwar connected the carmaker's achievements to his administration's economic reforms, noting that anti-corruption measures have recovered 15.57 billion ringgit over two years. The prime minister highlighted that Perodua's workforce includes many Bumiputera engineers and designers, demonstrating Malaysian capabilities in sustainable automotive technology. He recalled purchasing his own Myvi years earlier and encouraged the company to pursue affordable electric vehicle development as part of the national industrial strategy.
