Apple ditches polarizer for brighter, thinner iPhone displays

Apple fans might finally get brighter screens because Cupertino lifted a clever hack from Samsung. Leaks suggest the iPhone Fold and iPhone Air 2 utilize Color Filter on Encapsulation OLED tech. Removing the polarizing layer ostensibly increases light output and reduces thickness effectively.

The folding flagship likely drops late next year alongside the Pro lineup. Timelines for the Air 2 remain sketchy since executives cannot decide between a fall release or early 2027. That slim model features dual cameras and a cheaper price tag, regardless of when it lands.

Samsung apparently fixed the hinge crease using laser-perforated metal plates under the panel. This mechanism distributes pressure to stop grooves from forming. Previous experiments with ultra-thin glass failed to deliver, yet this fresh method supposedly keeps the surface smooth.

Expect a wide passport shape housing a 7.7-inch primary screen and a 5.4-inch cover display. The chassis contains a vapor chamber alongside a massive battery pushing 5800 mAh. An A20 Pro processor powers the rig with 12GB of memory and a custom 5G modem.

Face scanning gets replaced with side-mounted Touch ID. Rear cameras hit 48 megapixels while the selfie lens sits beneath the glass. Paying twenty-four hundred dollars gets users an eSIM-only unit. Shipments could reach nine million if the hype holds up.
