Apple Leads PC Market with M4 MacBook Air Growth Threatened

Apple jumped ahead of other computer makers with its new M4 MacBook Air, helping the company grow 17% compared to last year. This growth rate beat every competitor in the first three months of 2025. The Sky Blue color option made the already popular $999 device even more attractive to buyers. Global PC shipments increased 6.7% during this period, reaching 61.4 million units worldwide. Lenovo was the only other brand that saw double-digit growth at 11%.

Despite strong sales, experts from Counterpoint Research think this success might not last long. The main reason is new import tariffs coming from the Trump administration. These taxes could force Apple to raise prices on MacBooks, iPhones, and other products. Apple gained just 1% market share overall, moving from 9% to 10% of total PC sales. The company is currently talking with officials to avoid these extra costs.

Recent exemptions removed some laptop tariffs, but new duties on semiconductors and tech products are expected soon. This uncertainty makes future growth less certain for Apple. High inventory levels will also return to normal in the coming weeks, which might slow down sales even more.
