Apple Watch redesign delayed to 2028 per Instant Digital

A comprehensive redesign of the Apple Watch may not arrive until early 2028, according to industry sources, pushing back earlier expectations for the wearable's appearance overhaul. Weibo tipster Instant Digital suggests the revamped model will launch after the iPhone 20 anniversary edition debuts.

Previous reports from Mark Gurman indicated Apple was developing a slimmer case design with magnetic band connections, while DigiTimes pointed to a 2026 release featuring advanced sensors and potential blood glucose monitoring capabilities. The Series 11 model introduced only modest updates, including a MediaTek 5G modem and hypertension alerts, while the Ultra 3 variant added satellite SOS messaging and an enhanced LTPO3 OLED display.

Analyst Amit Daryanani of Evercore ISI believes the blood pressure sensing functionality could qualify the device for Health Savings Account eligibility. Apple reportedly plans to integrate biometric authentication through under-display ultrasonic fingerprint technology for 2026 models, which may preclude significant exterior modifications.
