Apple's new iPhone Air deliberately crippled with old charging tech

Apple enhanced charging capabilities across its iPhone 17 series through improved USB-C technology. The iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max achieve 50 percent battery capacity within 20 minutes when connected to compatible power adapters. Previous generation devices required approximately 30 minutes to reach the same charge level. The company developed a Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W maximum output to support these enhanced speeds. Apple prices this new charging accessory at $39 through retail and online channels.

The Dynamic Power Adapter maintains 40W sustained output while briefly reaching 60W peak performance due to its compact engineering. Third-party USB-C chargers meeting Apple's specifications will deliver equivalent fast charging performance. Testing will determine the actual effectiveness of the Dynamic adapter's 60W capability claims. The ultra-thin iPhone Air remains limited to previous generation charging speeds, reaching 50 percent capacity in 30 minutes. Customers can place pre-orders beginning September 12 with September 19 shipping dates.
