APSRTC bus stolen in Andhra Pradesh, thief arrested after police chase

Police arrested a man who stole an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation vehicle from Nellore district Wednesday morning. B. Krishna from Kancherla village took the Palle Velugu bus after driver Jeelani left it unattended at the bus stand. Authorities discovered the theft when Jeelani returned for duty and found his vehicle missing. CCTV footage helped officers track the stolen bus through Bucchireddypalem toll gate before intercepting it near Nellorepalem Circle. Police captured Krishna approximately 50 kilometers from the original location.

Andhra Pradesh has experienced similar bus thefts previously. Chowdary Suresh committed a comparable crime in Vizianagaram district during 2002. That suspect confessed to taking the students' special bus while intoxicated because he lacked transportation home. Officers found Suresh's stolen vehicle in Kandisa village after extensive searching. Both cases demonstrate recurring problems with unsecured public transportation vehicles across the state.
