Army Arrests Suspect in Mob Violence Outside Former Election Chief's Home

Bangladesh Army officials arrested a man connected to violent attacks against the country's former top election official. Md. Hanif faces charges for joining the mob that targeted K M Nurul Huda at his home on June 22. Military forces turned Hanif over to local police custody one day after the arrest. Army leaders promised continued efforts to stop similar violence across the nation. Military officials said they remain dedicated to maintaining peace and public safety.

The violent incident happened at Nurul Huda's residence on Road 1/A at Uttara Sector-5 around 7 pm. Six or seven attackers surrounded the former Chief Election Commissioner during the evening assault. The group beat Nurul Huda and forced him to wear a garland made from shoes. Attackers broadcast the abuse live on Facebook as police officers watched nearby. Local authorities received notification about the attack at 7:20 pm through an official complaint.

Police arrived at the scene but failed to prevent the harassment from continuing. Officers eventually gained control and moved Nurul Huda to Detective Branch protection. Army units learned about the violence and immediately started hunting for those responsible. Military forces continue searching for additional suspects who participated in the mob attack. Officials expect more arrests as the investigation moves forward.
