Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe has been the commander of the Zimbabwe National Army since October 20, 2023. Before his promotion, he headed the presidential guard unit. His career includes controversy from the August 1, 2018, events when he directed actions that left eight people dead.
Sanyatwe comes from Nyanga, making him part of the Manyika Cluster ethnic group. He recently joined the Zimbabwe government cabinet. President Mnangagwa picked him to run the Youth, Sport, Arts, and Recreation department after Kirsty Coventry stepped away from that position.
