Asghar pushes for Karachi Mogadishu sea route, Somalia defense deal

Additional Foreign Secretary Hamid Asghar represented Pakistan at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Contact Group meeting focused on Somalia. Qatar hosted the diplomatic gathering in Doha where Pakistan expressed strong support for enhanced bilateral partnerships. Asghar held separate discussions with Somalia's Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali about expanding cooperation between their nations. The officials explored multiple areas for collaboration during their bilateral talks. These partnership opportunities covered training programs, maritime defense development, and healthcare sector cooperation.

The two diplomats discussed establishing direct maritime routes connecting Karachi with Mogadishu ports. Defense partnerships and naval capability enhancement formed another significant topic during their conversation. Medical visa procedures and pharmaceutical supply arrangements received attention as potential areas for immediate cooperation. Somalia's Foreign Minister agreed to visit Pakistan after receiving an official invitation. Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister extended this invitation to strengthen diplomatic ties between the countries.
