Power supply failures forced the Barekese Water Treatment Plant to cease operations Thursday morning in the Ashanti Region. The Ghana Water Company Limited announced that low voltage from the Electricity Company of Ghana made continued production impossible at the facility. Operations stopped at 9 a.m. on September 25, 2025, leaving the plant waiting for electrical service restoration.
Communities throughout the Ashanti Region face significant water supply disruptions as they depend heavily on this treatment facility. The company stated that updates will follow when power returns to normal levels and production resumes. Residents must cooperate during this service interruption period while technicians address the electrical problems affecting the water treatment operations.
