Asif Nazrul calls for culture of human rights at Dhaka University seminar

Dr. Asif Nazrul addressed attendees at a Human Rights Support Society seminar held at Dhaka University. The Law Adviser emphasized that human rights require cultural development rather than mere legal enforcement. He advocated for self-purification and institutional transparency as foundations for meaningful reform. Nazrul condemned international double standards, noting how Western nations violate rights globally while claiming moral authority. He described the previous AL administration as fascist and praised those who sacrificed lives to remove Hasina from power.

Dr. Muhammad Ekramul Haq from Dhaka University's Law Faculty stressed judicial independence as essential for justice. He warned against courts becoming instruments of fascism and highlighted opportunities for reform following the 2024 regime change. Sanjida Khan, whose son died during July protests, spoke about state violence funded by citizen taxes. Michael Chakma shared his enforced disappearance ordeal and its devastating impact on his family. The seminar concluded by recognizing ten Human Rights Olympiad winners.
