ASUS rumored to brew its own DRAM by 2026

A rumor suggests ASUS might start making its own memory chips to combat ongoing shortages. The report claims the PC manufacturer could establish dedicated DRAM production lines by the middle of 2026. This move would primarily aim to secure a stable supply for its own products, like ROG and TUF-branded laptops and desktops, shielding it from high market prices and allocation battles. Current industry forecasts predict that constrained memory supplies could last for several more years.

This potential shift comes as other module brands have exited the market. Unlike a company like Crucial, which was a retail front for Micron's chips, ASUS would be building a new manufacturing operation from the ground up. For a major system integrator, this represents a huge logistical challenge focused on survival in a tight market rather than immediate profitability. If successful and excess capacity exists, other PC brands might eventually benefit from ASUS's supply. The rumor originated from a foreign tech outlet with a mixed track record, so it should be viewed cautiously until official confirmation.
