ASUS says crooked 5090 plug is by design, not a defect

ASUS is telling customers that a misaligned power connector on its ultra-expensive graphics card is not a mistake. A user posted about the ROG Matrix RTX 5090, complaining that the sixteen-pin power port sits off-center against the cooler shroud. This makes it hard to plug in many standard power cables securely. ASUS reviewed the complaint and stated the connector's positioning is intentional, part of the original design based on internal layout needs. The company will not be fixing or replacing cards for this issue.

This leaves buyers with limited choices. They can either keep the card and try to make the awkward connection work, or they can return it. The only guaranteed compatible cable is ASUS's own proprietary HPWR connector, which also requires a specific ASUS BTF motherboard to function. The Matrix model is a limited release with only about a thousand units produced, so the total number of affected users is likely small. This is not the first time this particular flagship GPU has faced public criticism over potential quality concerns, despite previous denials from the manufacturer.
