AT&T Rolls Out Account Lock to Block SIM Swaps, Scams

AT&T customers can fight back against phone hackers with a brand new security tool. The wireless giant created Account Lock to stop crooks from stealing phone numbers and personal data. Scammers often pretend to be customers and trick phone companies into moving numbers to different devices. This sneaky trick helps criminals break into bank accounts and social media profiles. The new feature puts up a digital wall around customer accounts.

Account Lock stops all major changes to phone service until customers turn off the protection themselves. Nobody can swap SIM cards, transfer numbers, add new lines, or change billing details when the lock stays active. Customers must use their physical phone and the myAT&T app to remove the security barrier. This means hackers cannot make changes even if they steal personal information from other sources. The feature works like a digital padlock that only the real customer can open.

All types of AT&T customers can use this protection regardless of their service plan. Business customers, prepaid users, and regular monthly subscribers all qualify for the same security benefits. The company warns customers that real AT&T workers never call people asking them to disable account locks. Any phone calls demanding account changes should raise immediate red flags about potential fraud attempts. This powerful tool gives customers direct control over their mobile phone security.
