Ato Forson eyes 2026 move on Affirmative Action LI

Ghana's government plans to present the Legislative Instrument for the Affirmative Action Act to Parliament next year, Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson has announced. The LI will establish technical specifications and administrative procedures required for implementing the broader legal framework, while the Cabinet has also approved an updated National Gender Policy aimed at enhancing inclusion and empowerment for women.

Forson revealed these initiatives while delivering the government's financial year budget statement, which centered on resetting the economy for growth, employment, and transformation. The Gender Ministry provided education to more than 5,000 individuals on issues including teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence, delivered services to hundreds of children in correctional facilities, and supported elderly citizens along with thousands of vulnerable people across the country.

Additional measures include passage of the Social Protection Act with its accompanying Legislative Instrument nearing completion, trauma-informed assistance for 135 human trafficking survivors, and approval of a revised Domestic Violence Policy designed to strengthen protections and judicial access for survivors.
