State officials confirm a fuel tanker explosion in Auchi impacted at least twenty-five people. The Edo State Government disclosed the figure through the head of its emergency management agency, Jerry Idahosa. A delegation led by the governor's chief of staff, Alhaji Gani Audu, visited the area following the incident in Etsako West Local Government.
Idahosa reported that sixteen victims are currently receiving care at Auchi General Hospital and Amazing Grace Hospital. The blast also destroyed several commercial shops, four trucks, and multiple motorcycles. Chief of Staff Audu stated the team was sent to offer sympathy and conduct an immediate assessment. He mentioned the group examined the scene and the hospitals, planning to submit a full report to guide future preventive measures.
The Commissioner for Public Safety, Festus Ebea, linked the accident partly to the poor, uneven condition of the Auchi-Okene expressway near Jattu junction. He noted the dangerous road has a history of similar trailer accidents. Ebea assured the public that the state government will cover all medical costs for the injured. He also issued a stern warning for residents to avoid scooping fuel from damaged tankers, emphasizing the extreme flammability of petrol and the risk of static ignition.
