Audit chief Ceesay enlists media to help hold government accountable

The National Audit Office completed media training sessions for journalists across The Gambia. Representatives from television stations, radio networks, print publications, community outlets, and digital platforms attended the two-day program at Bakadaji Hotel. Officials designed the workshop to strengthen audit report coverage while building partnerships between auditors and news professionals.

Auditor General Momodou Ceesay explained how the training supports annual stakeholder engagement plans. He referenced constitutional mandates that establish the office as the nation's Supreme Audit Institution. Ceesay highlighted how audit institutions promote government accountability and enable legislative oversight of public resource management. The International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions provides principles that guide effective communication with citizens.

Deputy Auditor General Baba S. Drammeh praised media organizations for supporting audit work. He emphasized how journalists promote good governance through public awareness campaigns. The training program equipped reporters with knowledge about public sector auditing processes, legal frameworks, and governance structures to improve future coverage quality.
