Malaysia will deploy automated immigration gates at border crossings beginning in the second quarter of 2026 under the Border Control and Protection Agency. Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the technology reduces human contact at checkpoints while improving efficiency and preventing corruption. The system aims to strengthen border security against smuggling operations and address refugee concerns across the nation.
The ministry plans to install 635 automated gates at 123 entry locations nationwide. Enforcement teams monitor 600,000 square kilometers of territorial waters against drug trafficking, weapons smuggling, and illegal migration. Saifuddin noted 80 percent of synthetic drugs enter through maritime channels. The minister spoke at a forum on integrity and leadership chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
