AVM Saravanan passes away, Tamil cinema mourns loss

AVM Saravanan died at 86 after battling age-related health problems, and his passing basically closed out a whole chapter for Indian cinema. The legendary Tamil producer ran the iconic AVM Studios banner that pumped out massive films for decades, and his body was displayed on the studio's third floor for fans to pay their respects. Chief Minister M K Stalin dropped a tribute saying the guy was as important to AVM's success as the production house was to shaping Tamil film history.

The film industry went into mourning mode with production companies scrapping scheduled events to honor someone they viewed as a mentor and trailblazer. Stalin pointed out how Saravanan kept his father's legacy alive while the studio maintained ties to the Dravidian movement through politically charged movies.

The Chief Minister described him as quiet and generous with everyone around him, and he sent condolences to family members, plus industry friends dealing with the loss.
