Baba Harare dropped from the Johannesburg gospel event after Jiti music return

Chosen World Ministries removed Baba Harare from the Hallowed 2025 gospel conference lineup after the Zimbabwean artist announced his return to performing Jiti music. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, at the ministry's Johannesburg location. Organizers said his shift back to secular music conflicted with the conference's spiritual focus.

Baba Harare had transitioned to gospel music in July 2024 but reversed course in September 2025. In a Facebook statement, he expressed disappointment with the decision but said he respects it while criticizing what he described as double standards in the gospel industry. He clarified that returning to Jiti does not diminish his Christian faith.

The artist maintains he can balance his religious beliefs with his musical career. He thanked supporters for their patience as he navigated questions about how his faith intersects with his work as a performer.
