Bangladesh EC redraws Pabna, Faridpur seats after court order

The election commission just redrew some district maps right after setting the voting date. Election officials changed the boundaries for four parliamentary seats in Pabna and Faridpur, specifically Pabna-1, Pabna-2, Faridpur-2, and Faridpur-4, following a high court order. Their public relations director confirmed the move, noting a formal gazette was published with the new lines.

Under this revision, Pabna-1 now covers all of Santhia Upazila plus a chunk of Bera Upazila, including its municipality and four union areas. Pabna-2 gets the rest of Bera Upazila, along with Sujanagar Upazila. In Faridpur, the second constituency will contain only Nagarkanda and Saltha upazilas, while the fourth constituency will gain Bhanga, Charbhadrasan, and Sadarpur upazilas. This reshuffles the previous layout for these areas.

This adjustment comes after the commission already finalized boundaries for all three hundred seats months earlier, a process that shifted seats between districts like Bagerhat and Gazipur. A subsequent court order forced another tweak just before the election schedule dropped, changing those seat counts again. Officials called this latest post-schedule revision unusual, lacking recent precedent. The chief election commissioner had announced a simultaneous parliamentary election and constitutional referendum for a date in February, with nomination deadlines and a campaign period already set.
